Sad news from North Carolina as an Asheville area Fire Chief was killed in a single vehicle crash crash. Fire Chief Richard Sales of the Reynolds FD was killed after his vehicle went down an embankment.
Initial reports are that Chief Sales. was traveling on I-40 Eastbound, hit barriers in the middle of the road, lost control of his vehicle and continued through the westbound lanes onto Wing Drive.
Firefighters at his department say Chief Sales, the second chief in the RFD history, was heading to a safety conference in his official capacity (in Wilmington) for the week, and planned to accept an award on behalf of the station. Sales was the Reynolds fire chief for 10 years, and worked at the department for about 30 years, taking over from his father, Bud, in 2008. Bud Sales was the first chief of the Reynolds Fire Department.
Chief Sales leaves behind a wife, a son and a daughter. Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
Take Care. Be Careful. Pass It On.
