At 0100 hours our engine was requested by the police dept to do an eye-wash of a victim of pepper spray resulting from a neighborhood dispute. The police were not on scene but had requested us. Both parties were in their seperate apartments. Upon our arrival, while pulling up to the apartment complex, we round a corner and we see a man on the patio of the apartment to which we were heading, he was about 20 yards from us. He raised his arm up in the air and shot his pistol across to the other apartments. After shooting he turned with the gun still in hand pointed in our direction. We kept turning the corner. He never shot at us, perhaps because we turned or he thought we had not seen him shoot. Had we not waited for PD or parked and walked or been seconds earlier we would have been at his apartment at the time of the shooting. The police arrested him. We were not hurt but for sure the hair on our necks was raised. You just never know when a routine call, (Ems) could turn violent and dangerous.
