A woman was injured this morning when she drove into the side of a Chicago Fire Department tower ladder truck en route to an emergency on Chicago’s Northwest Side, authorities said.
The accident happened shortly after 11 a.m. at the intersection of Foster and Austin Avenues in the city’s Jefferson Park neighborhood, fire department spokesman Larry Langford said.
Tower ladder truck No. 23 was on an emergency call to assist an ambulance when it collided with a small car driven by a 21-year-old woman, Langford said.
The truck had its emergency lights and sirens activated and had entered the middle of the intersection at the time of the crash, Langford said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Langford said. She may have suffered a broken arm, but had no life-threatening injuries, he said.
No one on the truck was hurt, according to Langford.
No traffic citations had been reported as of midday.
