Two people remain missing after Denver firefighters battled a three-alarm fire Wednesday at an apartment construction site at 18th Avenue and Emerson Street in the North Capitol Hill neighborhood.
One person was critically injured, one firefighter was critically injured and four people have been treated for smoke inhalation, said Denver Fire Department spokesman Greg Pixley.
Pixley said there will be a “long, in-depth, aggressive” search for the two who are missing.
“I believe we’re going to be here well into the night,” Pixley said. “A number of construction workers were leaping and jumping from the second and third floors trying to remove themselves from danger,” Pixley said.
A total of six buildings were involved in the fire, with four saved and one a total loss. Forty cars were demolished in the blaze, Pixley said. The fire started on the third floor of a 5-story, 84-apartment building under construction.
