Amarillo, Texas firefighter Kenneth Caldwell was battling an apartment complex fire when things turned bad and he was severely burned. A month later, Caldwell died from his injuries, and the fire was ruled arson.
That was 1982 and Caldwell’s killer has never been caught.
MyHighPlains.com reports that Amarillo’s Special Crimes Unit and Fire Marshal’s offices continue to pursue the case.
“In the last couple of years there has been some furthering of the investigation in the Special Crimes Unit, however, we are still at a point where we have not been able to solve this case and bring someone to justice for causing Caldwell’s death,” Lt. Erick Bohannon told station.
Bohannon is reaching out to the public hoping someone will remember useful information from that fire that will bring them closer to catching the arsonist.
“When a fireman is killed during the course of their duties. That garnered a lot of attention and there are a lot of people in Amarillo who remember what happened and we are hoping there is that one person out there who might actually be able to point us in the right direction,” said Bohannon.
