An explosion rocked an Orchard Mesa home early Thursday morning blowing out the garage door, shaking walls in neighboring homes and knocking several firefighters to the ground.
The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire just after 5 a.m. in the 200 block of West Hanover Circle, according to a statement from the Fire Department. The residents had already escaped the home when the first crew arrived on scene.
The building, a small single-story home, had light smoke coming from the garage, according to the Fire Department. A crew of firefighters began to enter the home for search and fire control when the explosion occurred. The garage door was blown from the front of the structure and three firefighters were knocked to the ground. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. The cause of the fire and explosions is still under investigation, according to the Fire Department.
