I am a member of the Lindenhurst, NY Fire Dept.On May 8, 2004 I was doing a work detail with the department at our picnic grounds. I started working at 9:30AM and at about 10:30AM I started to havr pains in my chest, which I thought I pulled a muscle in my chest. I told my son that it was time to go and we left to go home. While traveling home I noticed the pain was getting worse, goind into my neck and left arm. I got home and my wife asked what was wrong and I told he nothing. She saw the way I looked and called the ambulance. I was transported to the hospital in which they told me that I wa having a heart attack. At 44 years old I was not ready for this. To make a long story short by 2PM the same day I was Fine. The doctors placed a stent in my fully blocked artery. I am retired for the NYPD and now Asst Chief in the Lindenhurst Fire Department.
After 3 years of eating right and exercising everyday. I quit smoking the day of the incident in which I was smoking 2 to 3 packs a day and enjoy my family. Billy if you can just explain to other brother & sister firefighters to take care of themselves and listed to there body. Its the only one they have.
