The Redland (Calif.) Fire Department had to dial back its attack on a weekend brush fire when firefighters came upon used syringes and other medical waste at an illegal dump site.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
Firefighters were able to bring the 13-acre fire under control, but it still burned Monday within the containment zone, according to The Sun. City officials cannot begin to investigate the dump until the fire is out.
Fire department officials said the fire started near several homeless encampments and was likely human-caused.
