It’s with a heavy heart that we pass on that Commissioner Craig Craft of Nassau County’s Office of Emergency Management as well as his other role as a Commissioner of the Wantagh Fire District, died suddenly after suffering a heart attack at is home this morning, Literally dozens of his own beloved Wantagh Firefighters and EMT’s along with Nassau County Police EMS gave it their all in attempts to save the commissioners life-but their extraordinary efforts were futile.
Commissioner Craft, 53, was “emergency service” 24/7/365 and literally would do anything for anyone-he set the example of public service as well as defining daily what being a “brother” and friend is. Craig was a long time friend of mine and my family.
He was a lifelong Firefighter, past Chief and current Commissioner (currently Vice Chair) of the WFD as well as Commissioner of Emergency Management for Nassau County since 2011. Prior to that, he had decades of service with Nassau County Government. Craig was not married but leaves behind his long time girlfriend, numerous family-and family kids-that totally adored him…and it was no wonder-he was upbeat, positive, a wonderful character and got things done. He was definitely one of the good guys.
As one friend said: “Craig was the kind of guy, if you needed the last dollar in his pocket, he’d get you $1.25.”
The family will be having a wake service at Wantagh FD headquarters on Friday from 1400 to 1600 & 1800 to 2100. The firematic services will take place 1900 on Friday night. On Saturday the family will continue a wake from 1500 to 2000 and on Sunday morning at 1100 hours there will be a funeral service at the headquarters with a procession and interment to follow.
REST IN PEACE BROTHER. XOXO
