ALABAMA FIRE OFFICER DIES FOLLOWING FIRE-Medical Emergency

We regret to pass on to you the passing of West Blocton (east of Tuscaloosa) Fire Department Lt. Clinton Dale Hardemon, age 58.
Lt. Hardemon responded with the West Blocton Fire Department to a structure fire at 0818 hours on the morning of August 13, 2017. While on scene at the structure fire Lt. Hardemon operated the fire pump on the fire apparatus and also maneuvered fire hose around the structure and apparatus. WBFD units returned to service at 1120am. Lt. Hardemon then drove the apparatus back to the station with no problems noted.
Lt. Hardemon returned to the fire station at approximately 1410 hours with Chief Joe McCool to look at one of the departments boats. While looking at the boat Lt. Hardemon told Chief McCool that he was feeling lightheaded, at this time Lt. Hardemon fell to the ground unresponsive. Chief McCool immediately began medical care. He called 911 at 1418 hours.
Chief McCool initiated CPR and placed Lt. Hardemon on the AED, 2 shocks were given before the arrival of Amserve ALS unit. Lt. Hardemon was airlifted to DCH Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead sometime that evening. Our condolences to all those affected.
