WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA—Ten people, including eight firefighters, were sent to the hospital Sunday night after a three-alarm house fire in Washington Township, officials said.
Crews from Eastern Berks Fire Department were dispatched at 5:30 p.m. for a garage fire at 585 Lenape Road, said Paul Bartlett, public information officer for the fire department.
Fire Chief Mike Mutter arrived on the scene and confirmed there was a working fire with two people trapped in the home.
Two people were pulled from the home by firefighters and transported to a local hospital, Bartlett said.
Second and third alarms brought firefighters from Berks, Lehigh and Montgomery counties to the scene.
Eight firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion and transported to local hospitals, Bartlett said.
The home was a total loss.
The fire is being investigated by Pennsylvania State Police and will release more information when available, Bartlett said.
The home is owned by Richard Minford, according to Berks County property records.
