A Streamwood firefighter was injured battling a blaze that badly damaged a two-story townhouse late Tuesday, authorities said.
Firefighters responding to the fire in the 200 block of Teak Lane at about 11:51 p.m. Tuesday arrived to find flames coming from the roof of a four-unit townhouse, fire officials said.
The two occupants of the townhouse where fire broke out were awakened by smoke alarms and able to evacuate safely. The fire did not spread into adjacent townhouses, according to the fire department.
Although strong winds hampered efforts to put out the blaze, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control fairly quickly, officials said.
The injured firefighter was treated for a knee injury, Fire Chief Chris Clark said.
Investigators ruled the cause of the fire to be accidental, determining it started in a fireplace of the townhouse, Clark said. The blaze caused an estimated $150,000 in damages.
