Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and two family cats are missing following an overnight fire that burned an 1889 farmhouse outside Warrenton.
Fire crews were called to the home in the 6000 block of Blackwell Road at Blantyre Road about 4:50 a.m., arriving to find smoke and fire showing.
The occupants were alerted by smoke alarms and were able to escape safely, fire officials said. But two family cats were missing and presumed perished.
Two firefighters with the New Baltimore Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company suffered minor injuries — one with a shoulder injury and another with burns to an ear. By Saturday afternoon, both had been released from the hospital and are “doing well,” the department said in a Facebook post.
The fire engulfed the first and second floors of the home, collapsing the right and rear parts of the structure.
Property records identify the home as a renovated 1889 farmhouse.
The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the blaze. There’s no indication the fire is suspicious, said Assistant Fire Chief Jason Golden.
