==EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN-WATCH COMMANDER:
We regret to pass on that a 59-year-old FDNY EMT who worked the 9/11 World Trade Center site rescue and recovery has died as a result of COVID-19, officials said late Sunday.
Gregory Hodge was a 24-year veteran of the FDNY who most recently was assigned as a watch commander at the city’s Emergency Management office, monitoring citywide radio frequencies, forecasts and serving as part of the unit’s 24/7 emergency management operation.
He is survived by an adult son.
An FDNY fire protection inspector who was helping prepare the city for their response to COVID-19’s outbreak died from the virus. Edward Mungin, 56, of Brooklyn, was a supervising fire protection inspector. He joined the department eight years ago. He was assigned to the Bureau of Fire Prevention where he supervised inspectors at FDNY’s Shelter Task Force and Three Quarter Housing Task Force. As the pandemic hit New York City, he worked with the Health Task Force to conduct field assessments of buildings that were selected to be used as shelters.
Mungin is survived by his wife, Patricia and their two children.
Our condolences to all those affected. Rest In Peace.
