Two Dallas fire stations have been temporarily closed after sewage backups at both locations.
Firefighters, engines and other resources have been moved this week and last from Station 41 at 5920 Royal Lane in Preston Hollow and Station 42 at 3333 W. Mockingbird Lane, near Love Field.
“Conditions in the fire stations are unlivable,” fire department spokesman Jason Evans said. “Sewage and fecal matter are coming into the stations.”
A third, Station 43 in northwest Dallas, was closed Tuesday because of a gas leak. Evans said the latest closures aren’t connected, although Station 42 was hosting a rescue unit from Station 43.
Station 41 had been having sewage problems since Feb. 20, when a pipe broke near Royal Lane and Preston Road and caused a significant backup in the station. Repair crews are on scene attempting to repair the pipe.
The cause of the backup at Station 42 has not yet been identified.
Fire engines from both stations will continue to operate, but will be housed at other locations around the city.
There is no timetable for when either station will reopen.
